Indonesia: The Land Of The “Most”

Indonesia, which we can call the country of mosts, has the characteristics of being the most largest island country globally, the country with the largest Muslim population, the second country with the longest coastline in the world, and the fourth most populated country in the world. Spreading over 17,000 islands in Southeast Asia and Oceania, the country is also home to Jakarta, the second-most populous metropolis.

Officially known as the Republic of Indonesia, the country is governed by a presidential system. With an area of 1,904,569 km2 on the equator line, Indonesia is a rainy and humid country with a tropical climate. In the country, where the average temperature is 26 oC in the summer months, the winter temperature is at least 18 oC.

According to 2020 estimates, Indonesia, where 273.5 million people live, has about 300 ethnicities and 250 languages on its territory, reflecting the country motto "Unity in the Masses". Ethnic identities constitute the majority of the population with 40% Java, 15% Sundanese, 3.7% Malay, 3.6% Batak, 3% Madura, 2.9% Betavi, 2.7% Minangkabau, 2.7% Bugis. The religious structure of the country consists of 87% Muslims, 10% Christianity, and 3% other religions.

Indonesia, where rice is widely used in its dishes, reflects the fact that it is a country that combines hundreds of cultures in its cuisine. Influences from India, the Middle East, China and Europe are seen in the country, and its dishes called nasi-goreng, gado-gado, sate and soto are famous. Maluku island in Indonesia, also known as Spice Island, brought spices such as cloves and nutmeg to the world. The fruit juices of the country, which has a wide variety of fruits thanks to its climatic features, are also popular.

Bali and the capital Jakarta are prominent cities in Indonesia, which consists of 8 large islands called Java, Bali, Sumatra, Kalimatan, Sulawesi, Nusa Tenggara, Maluku and Papua.

Borobudur, the largest Buddhist temple globally, has entered the UNESCO World Heritage List. The temple is a popular tourist destination with thousands of embossings and hundreds of sculptures.

One of the most famous holiday destinations globally, Bali is known for its clear blue sea. In Bali, which has an autonomous structure where Hindus and Muslims live together, it is possible to visit famous temples while enjoying the sea and beautiful beaches.

3- Yogyakarta

Yogyakarta is located in the Central Java region of the country. Yogyakarta, which is the main centre of artistic activities such as batik, ballet, theatre and puppetry from the Javanese culture, is one of the essential stops for those who visit the country with its valuable structures and cultural riches.

4- Lombok Island

Lombok is an island home to the awe-inspiring Mount Rinjani with its famous sightseeing spots. Rinjani, a volcanic mountain, is an intriguing sight for tourists.

5- Flores Island

Flores Island contains many places that can be seen both naturally and culturally. The island hosts the Kelimutu volcano caldera and is an important tourism centre.
