Albaraka Türk Announced "2020 Sustainability Report"

Melikşah Utku, General Manager of Albarak Türk, made further comments, "We carry out all our activities with the environmental impact and the understanding of entrustment in mind.  We regard the social, environmental, and economic values we have as if they are entrusted to us, and we aim to pass on these values to future generations."

According to the statement made by Albaraka Türk, the bank, structuring its entire business model in line with sustainability and conducting studies for this purpose, continues to take significant steps towards the solution of many universal problems, especially the climate crisis, carbon emission, and water problems, and to obtain the positive results of these steps.

Structuring its entire business model in line with sustainability and conducting studies for this purpose, Albaraka Türk continues its sustainability journey that it has started in 2015 with an approach that is resistant to risks, respectful to the planet and all living beings, and centered on the protection of the environment.

In this respect, Albarka Türk, continuing its activities with the vision of being the best participation bank in the world and shaping its social responsibilities with a new project every day, has announced its 2020 Sustainability Report.

Taking its place among the companies taken under the valuation of Borsa Istanbul (BIST) Sustainability Index in 2020, as in 2019, Albaraka Türk renewed its title as the first and only Participation Bank included in the Index.

Obtaining an 'A' score, one of the highest scores under the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), as a result of its environment-oriented studies, Albaraka became one of the banks that achieved the highest score this year by obtaining an 'A-' score in the climate change category and a 'B-' score in the water safety category.

The Bank continued to contribute to the Zero Waste Project by saving significant amounts of paper

In line with the information in the statement, Albaraka, an active participant in the Zero Waste Project initiated by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, has significantly reduced its carbon footprint by implementing saving-oriented projects in the areas of prevention/reduction, reuse, and procurement.

Having successfully executed the digital transformation process, the bank continued to contribute to the Zero Waste Project by saving significant amounts of paper.

Having increased its assets by 35 percent through realizing its targets during the pandemic period when the whole world was going through difficult times, Albaraka continued to take significant steps especially in lending for projects that will contribute to the sustainability of the world.

Achieving pioneering sustainability indicators in different fields, particularly in the fight against climate change, as well as successful financial and operational results in the 2020 operating period, Albaraka Türk has an extensive and developed service network with 3,390 employees and 230 branches, in addition to its financial performance that adds value to the savings of its shareholders, including TRY 69.3 billion in total assets and TRY 40.6 billion in funds provided.

The grand total of the Bank's social investments in the fields of environment, health, education, vulnerable groups, etc. reached TRY 14 million in 2020.
